About the Event

Matt serves as President of AEGIS CTA, bringing more than two decades of experience spanning energy markets research, trading, technology deployment, and management consulting.

His expertise covers the full petroleum barrel and beyond. At Platts Bentek, he led supply-side modeling for natural gas during the pivotal rise of U.S. shale development and subsequently launched the firm's oil market research, advising producers, banks, and trading houses on how to interpret and capitalize on the surge in U.S. oil production.

At Cargill, then one of the world's leading risk management and energy trading firms, Matt led trading research across a broad range of commodities, including ethane, propane, butanes, natural gasoline, ethylene, propylene, and Henry Hub natural gas—with coverage extending into U.S. power markets, coal, and refined products as needed.

Since joining AEGIS, Matt has expanded his research focus to include commodities adjacent to and influential on oil, gas, and NGL prices. His client work has encompassed financial statement price sensitivity and scenario testing, network modeling for natural gas basis and oil differentials, transportation contract valuation risk, and the application of statistical hedging methods in cases where conventional risk identification falls short.

Discussion Topic Overview

AEGIS has earned recognition from the Energy Risk Awards as Hedging Advisor of the Year for seven consecutive years, serving more than 500 oil and gas entities across their risk management needs. Given the ongoing Iran conflict and the heightened volatility it has introduced to energy markets, we believe this is an opportune moment to share our perspective — covering what has unfolded since the conflict began, how hedging activity has responded, and where we see things heading.

Our discussion will address:

  • Hedging activity in a volatile market — an overview of how producers have approached and executed hedging strategies amid recent uncertainty

  • The industry's shift toward fiscal discipline—how a fundamental change in market philosophy has reshaped producers' attitudes toward risk mitigation and driven a meaningful evolution in hedging behavior

  • Asset-backed securities (ABS) hedging—a practical explanation of how this structure works and its relevance to today's environment

  • Midstream capacity and revenue certainty—how pipeline and infrastructure constraints influence pricing, and the data-driven insights AEGIS provides to help clients achieve greater revenue certainty
